August Burns Red // 20 Year Anniversary

Welcome to the August Burns Red 20 Year Anniversary Show.

Do you have that one song that makes you remember the exact place and time in your life when you were first introduced to it? For me, that song is “Truth of a Liar” by August Burns Red.

As a young actor back in 2007, I would have to be on several different locations out in LA and Hollywood. Sometimes I would have to be on the same set multiple days in a row. Not having a lot of money, I would sleep out in my truck on the side of the road in Hollywood and be up at the butt crack of dawn to make it to set on time.

During my time doing this, I discovered a little band called August Burns Red. I had their song “Truth of a Liar” as my very first ringtone on the very first iPhone. I received a lot of unsettling looks whenever it would go off, but I loved it so much! Since then, their audience and fanbase have grown tremendously, as has the popularity of metalcore.

Throughout the years, my love for their music has grown immensely. I especially love listening to their hardcore Christmas album, Sledding’ Hill around the Holidays. It saves me from drowning in a sea of traditional cookie-cutter Christmas jingles.

I have wanted to shoot their live show for so long but always seemed to miss the opportunity, until recently. I was able to shoot their 20 year anniversary show at The House of Blues in Las Vegas, NV, as they headlined for Bleed From Within hailing all the way from Glasgow, Scotland, and The Devil Wears Prada from Dayton, Ohio.

The show was so full of passion and energy. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I could barely take photos because of the crowd surfers that were constantly landing on me, as well as the water that was continually being chucked my way, drenching me. Those are the kinds of shows you remember. The ones that make you forget all the drama of the outside world. The ones that let you break free for a moment and just go crazy. I will forever love August Burns Red and will still be jamming to them when I am 70 years old, for sure.

Photos were shot with the following equipment: (2) Canon R5’s, RF 15-35 2.8, RF 24-70 2.8, RF 70-200 2.8 and RF 50 1.2.
